as i sat down before bed last night i knew i needed to write. i was overcome with gratitude.

long commutes every day provided opportunities to listen to the scriptures. rather than blasting justin timberlake the whole way, i took the time to open up the gospel library app. the rather monotonous commute became a highlight of my day. as i listened alma and the sons of mosiah, moroni and helaman became real to me. i began pondering the words. applying them to myself, and continued thinking about them throughout the day. thoughts on faith, and defending our families. courage and bravery and sticking up for what we believe. i'm grateful for the way the scriptures have influenced my days.

the stress of getting my classroom ready for school was overwhelming. i didn't even know where to begin. my mom stepped up to the plate and offered countless hours over the past couple weeks. words can't even begin to describe how much she has done to help me. she literally has lifted a weight off my shoulders, as well as, organized 50 years worth of closets, thrown away buckets and buckets worth of junk, and made my room a masterpiece. i know she wouldn't take any credit it for it, but she is selfless and loving. i am grateful for her service. and to call her "mom".

this weekend i got to spend time with some old friends. we laughed and enjoyed ourselves. but as we were leaving one friend stopped me. she asked, "ashley, how have you really been?" i could feel the tears beginning to well up in my eyes. it was just what i had been praying for. and just the conversation i needed to have. she was my tender mercy. i am grateful for friends. especially ones that have the courage to ask the tough questions.

i am grateful.

ReplyDeleteJust love you girl. I really want to have you and Amalie over for dinner before she moves!!
ReplyDeleteMoms are the best! You will be such an amazing teacher. I remember starting at Eastmont and throwing out a good 20+ years of junk from our math dept closet . . . oh the fun. So glad you've had some helpers this week. My prayers will be with you too. Especially for those 'back to school orientation' faculty meetings . . . groan! Bring your lesson plan book and hide it under the table ;-) Good luck hon!!
