i've spent an entire term with these kids.
i got asked the same question. a million times. in a row.
i played the mean teacher who made them write about proper etiquette.
i sat through parent teacher conferences.
i taught 35 seventh graders to sew. at the same time.
i got paid minimum wage.
i smirked when students showed up for class the last two days when i hadn't seen them all term.
[and asked what they could do to pass, no less.]
...
i taught them.
i learned from them.
i laughed with them.
i shared experiences with them.
i made friends with great co-workers.
i learned what role a teacher can play in a student's life.
i grew to love them more than even knew i could.
...
i said good bye.
i got hugs and "you're a really great teacher."
and i cried as i left.
thank you, my students, for teaching me exactly why i do what i do.
why i want nothing else than to be a teacher.
u da best!
